In 2002, the CR.E.A.T.E. project devised by Kids' Own Publishing Partnership and Vine Haugh of the Southern Education and Library Board merged with a project entitled Trading Places devised by Rhonda Tidy, Visual Arts Co-ordinator Cavan County Council. Together these interdisciplinary projects aim to break new ground in collaborative educational projects which give back to the community. The Education and Library boards in neighboring counties bring their expertise in education and support of the project.
Kids' Own Publishing Partnership is a not-for-profit arts organisation that carries out collaborative workshops in classrooms and arts centres to assist children to produce published materials for a wider audience. The materials can take many forms ranging from hand printed limited editions to web pages. Publications include books, posters, calendars, and resource materials. Kids' Own provides training for a range of professionals interested in developing their skills as artists or exploring creative uses of new technologies with young people.
Kids' Own has experience and skills in working collaboratively with groups of children in the area of arts, children and publishing; and is becoming increasingly specialised in using new technologies. Experience in the last three years and the introduction and delivery of the Visual Arts Curriculum in Primary Education have demonstrated the need for training and curriculum development for artists and educators. Kids' Own is well positioned to support professionals who share and understand our mission. The three-year project Multimedia Maps was initiated and very successfully run by Kids' Own and the exhibition from that project is at the Irish Museum of Modern Art from April - July 2003. The role of the Arts Office is diverse and centres on the development of arts awareness and promotion of arts activities. The office works to promote arts development and excellence in the context of the social, cultural and economic climate in the County. It is the concern of the Arts Office to familiarise community groups to the potential benefits of arts involvement for their members. The Arts Office is funded by the Local Authority and the Arts Council. Funding is also received from other agencies i.e. Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and the Gulbenkian Foundation. Additional funding is sought from national and international agencies and organisations to promote arts development and enhance the provision of facilities.
The funding for this project is from the Department of the Environments Per Cent for Art Scheme. http://www.cavancoco.ie/services/arts.htm
