trading places - flax - paper - holy - white on white

White on White

One of the lovely things about damask linen is the way you can see a pattern of white on white, just by the way the threads catch the light.

We made some images using this idea. We used paper place mats which are imitations of linen place mats and paper doilies which used to be made of linen too. In the old days the people who made linen things had to save up for a long time and work long hours to own a table cloth, and they used to last a life time. Often babies christening dresses were passed down from one generation to the next.

Here is a picture of some crotcheted linen...

Nowadays we use paper which is cheaper and it is made to be thrown away after use.

Keelan made a rocket for his place setting...

Shane got interested in aerodynamics....

We looked at shadows.....

Sarah and Leona are working on a wedding dress, like the one we saw in the museum...

Our dresses will be made out of paper, here you can see the pieces pinned together

and here is a seam sewn with the flax we dyed with logwood

This is a design by Matthew
